There are three major options:
# connect to the Staging area database which has PostGIS extension
# using the PostGIS function ''pgsql2shp'' to create shape files from SQL views and/or the geo tables in the Staging area database
# connect to the so called sandbox which is the file based geodatabase which is used by the {{IMSMANG}} application.

{{Warning |The sandbox is used by the {{IMSMANG}} application and changes to it and/or the mxd file that is used by the {{IMSMANG}} application for rendering the geographical information in the [[Map pane]] may cause errors. Therefore it is strongly recommended to use the Staging area database for all GIS analysis and map production.}}
