[[File:MINT_scope.png|left|500px]] Business intelligence (BI) is a set of theories, methodologies, architectures, and technologies that transform raw data into meaningful and useful information. While operational systems - such as {{IMSMANG}} and many others - are designed and optimised for data entry, updates, etc., a BI system is usually designed for analysing and visualising data. It is thus a read-only system.
The Mine Action INTelligence Tool (MINT -- the name is a reference to Business Intelligence) has been introduced to allow analysing, visualising and reporting on mine action data from various sources. It is a tool and service provided by the GICHD to the wider mine action community.
Use cases for MINT include:
* Creating digital dashboards to convey specific information to specific audiences
* Tracking indicators and progress, for example through gauges and traffic lights -- is an activity on track or not
* Creating interactive reports
* Scheduling reports and sending notifications -- for example, send a specific report as a PDF attachment by email every Monday at 08:00 to the operations manager
* Performing ad-hoc data analyses by dragging and dropping fields from predefined data sources
