IED classification is included in the Ordnance Classification in {{IMSMANG}} as an inspiration for IMSMA administrators to get started. More information on Ordnance Classification and other Auxiliary data may be found '''[[Auxiliary Data#Ordnance Classification | here]]''' for users and '''[[Standardising Auxiliary Data#Ordnance Classification | here]]''' for administrators.

The table below is an example of expert categorisation in greater detail based on technical components of the IED. An IED in a car where the trigger/switch was of type ''infra-red active'' to be activated when the victim opened the door would then be:# Category = IED# Subcategory = Vehicle-Borne IED# Model = Infra-red active Victim Operated VBIED  {| class="wikitable sortable"! width="125pt" | Group !!
