Note.jpg To add a place, you must have read and write (File:Check.png) access to the Places permission.

To add a place to IMSMA:

  1. From the Data Entry menu, select Places.
  2. The Place List window displays.
  3. Click the Add button.
  4. The Place Editor window displays.

  1. Enter the unique identifier for the place in the Place ID field.
  2. Enter the name of the place in the Place Name field.
  3. Select the general category of the place from the Type drop-down list. Note that a type value must be selected.
  4. Enter a description of the place in the Description field.
  5. If the place is active, check the Active checkbox.
  6. If there are any fields in the Custom Defined Fields section, enter data in those fields.
  7. Enter the place address in the Address field.
  8. To select a country structure area, click the File:SelectCountryStructureArea.png button to select the country structure area.
    The Country Structure Selection window displays.
  9. From the Country Structure Selection window:
    1. Select the country structure. Click the PlusIcon.png icons to expand the country structure tree.
    2. Click the OK button.
    3. The Country Structure Selection window closes.
  10. Select the coordinate reference system that you would like to use from the Coordinate System list.
  11. Select the coordinate format from the Coordinate Format list.
  12. There are several options for entering geospatial data. These options and the page on which you can find additional information are listed in the table below.

Note.jpg You can preview the points that you have entered on a map by clicking the PreviewPoints.png button.
  1. Do one of the following:
    • To add the new place, click the Save button.
    If the place is added successfully, the place displays in the Place List window.
    • To discard the place and close the Place Editor window, click Cancel.
