Note.jpg The country structure levels must be created before you can add country structures to IMSMA. For information on adding country structure levels, see the How to set up country structure levels in a new IMSMA installation

To add a country structure:

  1. From the Data Entry menu, select Country Structure Areas.
  2. Template:Important

  3. Click the name of the parent country structure for the country structure that you would like to add.
  4. Note.jpg Note that you cannot add a country structure to the lowest level
  5. Click the button.
  6. The Country Structure Editor window displays.

    Template:Important

  7. In the field below the Parent Area field, enter the name of the country structure that you would like displayed in the IMSMA Navigation window’s country structure pane. The label associated with the field will depend on the level of the country structure that you are adding.
  8. If the country structure has other names by which it is known, add the alternate names by doing the following:
    1. Click the button in the Alternative Names section of the Country Structure Editor window.
    2. The Add Alternative Name window displays (Figure 136).
    3. Enter the alternate name in the Alternative Name field. The alternative names will also be displayed in the IMSMA Navigation window’s country structure pane.
    4. Click the OK button.
    5. The Add Alternative Name window closes and the alternate name you entered displays in the Country Structure Editor window.
  9. In the Geospatial Information section of the Country Structure Editor window, select the coordinate reference system that you would like to use from the Coordinate System list.
  10. Select the coordinate format from the Coordinate Format list.
  11. There are several options for entering geospatial data. These options and the page on which you can find additional information are listed in Table 44.
    • If you want to, manually add geospatial points, refer to How to manually add a geospatial point.
    • If you want to manually add polygon and polyline points, refer to How to manually add polygon and polyline points.
    • If you want to draw on the map to specify point, polygon, and polyline coordinates, refer to How to draw on the map to specify point coordinates.
    • If you want to import geospatial data, refer to Importing geospatial data for a polyline or polygon.
Note.jpg You can preview the points that you have entered on a map by clicking the button
  12. Set the preferred map extent. The preferred map extent displays whenever you select the country structure area from the country structure pane. To set the preferred map extent:
    1. In the IMSMA Navigation window, set the map extent for the country structure area.
    2. Note.jpg Because certain map tools are unavailable after you click the button, it is recommended that you set the map extent before clicking the button
    3. Click the button.
    4. The Map Extent window displays.
    5. From the Navigation window, change the map extent to the one that you would like to display with the country structure.
    6. From the Map Extent window, click the Capture button.
    7. The Country Structure Editor window’s Preferred Map Extent field changes to show that an extent has been specified.
    8. Select one of the following status options for the country structure:
      • Active – the country structure is displayed whenever the entire country structure tree is displayed.
      • Inactive – the country structure is hidden whenever the entire country structure tree is displayed.
    9. Do one of the following:
      • To save the information you have entered for the country structure, click the Save button.
